My 2018 Postpartum Weight Loss Journey

Let’s talk about added sugar, that little devil that sneaks into everything, including your kids vitamins (like, really?) We can’t buy a loaf of bread without seeking out which one has been soaked in the least amount if it. You don’t realize it until you read EVERY SINGLE NUTRITION LABEL. And what happens when there’s no label? Like on your wine bottle? Yeah. Then you end up sucking it down by the teaspoon as you delight in the delicious glass of wine that likely came right out of a laboratory. I could spout numbers to you all day, but here’s the real truth — right from my own bathroom scales.

When I was postpartum with my first child I spent a year slowly dropping the excess weight. No rush, build and grow as you go strategy. I was working out regularly and eating right. But I was also drinking my fair share of wine (my old go-to Sauvignon Blanc, the mass-produced deliciousness from New Zealand). My son was almost 1.5 when I decided to quit wine/alcohol for a month — and that was when I dropped that last stubborn 8 lbs. Damn you alcohol, I thought.

So here I was four years later and my daughter was almost one year old. Slow and steady at the gym and on my plate, same strategy. In the back of my mind I knew I’d have to cut out alcohol to push past that last stage again. But then I came across clean wine, and that learning led me to sign up as an Independent Wine Consultant with Scout & Cellar Clean-Crafted Wine. I figured if I’m going to drink it I might as well get paid for it, heh! But let’s get back to that scale. You see this time I didn’t drink less wine (not even close, folks - I might have drank more because I didn’t get any hangovers - at ALL) or give up drinking/alcohol for any amount of time. I just drank clean wine — organic/biodynamic farming, zero chemicals, preservatives, additives…and NO ADDED SUGAR. Without that added devil I was consuming about 16g LESS sugar in each bottle. Adds up over time… Let me show you how.

In six weeks of NO changes to my diet and exercise habits EXCEPT for removing high sugar wines and only drinking clean, organic, zero added sugar wines, I dropped 6lbs. That’s a pound a week, yes please and thank you! AND it’s holiday season, people!

Educate yourself! I always wrote off wine as something that wasn’t good for me anyways, so no matter what was in it. WRONG. I feel SO much better. And I’m finally starting to see the results I work so hard for every day. WITHOUT sacrificing my wine time — win win!
