When opportunity knocks, you answer the door (or, you know, the email). When Skipp, the Director of Education for Pilates ProWorks, reached out to me via my website contact form I was in New York visiting family. I remember telling my husband, excitedly...and then taking three days to respond to Skipp. Why? In a nutshell - self doubt. I researched the company and loved what I saw - the brand, the method, their story and style. But was I able and ready to teach such a detailed method? Yes, I'd worked through my CPT and nutrition certs and was working with a handful of individual clients, but training under a new discipline and teaching an entire class suddenly terrified me! Of course I did eventually respond, and I took that call, and I made the cut...and I completed the training course and required teaching hours and am now a Certified ProWorks Instructor - and I couldn't be prouder! Proud for stepping into the fire and facing my fears, for putting in the work and reaping the reward, for being part of this company and the launch of a new studio here in Alexandria. The people I've met inspire me daily - from Betsy Weissman (owner, boss, mom, killer entrepreneur) to our team of loving and passionate instructors - they're supportive, caring, committed, and just Good People, you know what I mean? Not easy to compile a team like that, but Skipp and Betsy made it happen and I'm honored to be a part of it!
It's soft opening week right now, and although 99% of the classes have full waiting lists there are 3-4 late morning classes with one or two spaces if you have a flexible schedule (they're free right now so take advantage). Grand Opening is officially May 20th and there's some killer deals for founding members right now so check it out. Currently you'll see Pilates Essentials and Pilates Pro on the schedule, but we have many more coming - including one I'm particularly excited to train for next weekend - matBox.
If you are new to Pilates or new to the studio, this class is designed for you to learn the fundamentals of the Pilates Pro Method (language, movements, breathing and body alignment). It will also show you how to use the equipment correctly and safely.
Our signature FitFormer (think super reformer) class combines resistance, lengthening, and strength training into a high-energy, music-fueled total body workout.
A knock-out workout part Kickboxing, part Mat Pilates, and part Yoga. A Pilates ProWorks original, matBox is a powerful workout that starts with a round of high-intensity kickboxing with a punching bag. Then, the gloves come off and you hit the mat for a round of Pilates to strengthen your core. The final round incorporates Yoga to leave you aligned, balanced and fully invigorated. The result is a balanced mix of high-energy and focused intensity that tones, aligns and blasts calories.
